Squish AVAILABLE FOR CUSTOM PRINTING
Squish is a snuggly and thick fabric, similar to Minky fabric, but double sided, removing any need to apply a backing to it.
This cosy, warm fabric offers a 4 way stretch with a velvety short pile on the printed side and a slightly longer pile on its backing.
What are some ideas I can make with this fabric?
Perfect for bath robes, cardigans, scarves, pram blankets and play mats, baby toys and accessories.
Due to Squish fabric being made of a synthetic fabric, it tends to trap heat and moisture making temperature regulation difficult in young babies and children. We do not recommend using for baby clothing or where the fabric would be in contact with a babies skin for extended periods of time, especially over night where a natural, breathable fabric would be better suited. Alternatively in cooler climates or months of the year, Squish clothing can be worn, layered over natural fibres for insulation.
WASHING AND CARE OF SQUISH FABRIC - (use as a guide only)
Pre-wash fabric the same way you would intend to wash your finished product.
We recommend machine washing fabrics with like colours on a cool, gentle cycle. Avoid any harsh detergents, bleach or softeners. White vinegar works great to retain absorbency and softness while baking soda will help to deodorise any stubborn smells from the fabric. Do not wring fabrics out, simply shake out creases and line dry immediately after washing, in shade and inside out to best retain fabric colour and integrity. Tumble dry without heat. Any heat will increase static and reduce softness.
Do not iron.
SEWING TIPS FOR YOUR SQUISH FABRIC
Refer to Minky fabric for sewing tips.
Squish is a super soft fabric made from polyester with minimal shrinkage from pre washing.
To trouble shoot any sliding, stretching or puckering when sewing with Minky or squish, try using a washable basting spray to anchor the fabric and make it easy to work with.
Consider the direction of the fabric while you are planning. Squish has a ‘direction’ and would be best to consider this when you are planning out your project.
A walking foot will make your life a lot easier when sewing with Squish.
Use a longer stitch length and start you sewing with the grain (less stretch with the grain) first.
A good quality 90/14 needle.
Washable basting spray and LOTS of pins will save your sanity and your sewing machine from being thrown out the window!
Good luck and happy sewing!
